Priory Of Sions

The Prieuré de Sion or Priory of Sions ([pʁi.jœ.ʁe də sjɔ̃]) is a secret society that was founded in 1099, but its long history goes back even further. It began as a group of monks who wanted to preserve their religion and culture from being destroyed by outsiders. Later on, these monks would become powerful individuals who helped make great discoveries about science and art—two fields that are still important today!

Facts

  • It had illustrious Grand Masters including Leonardo da Vinci and Sir Isaac Newton.
  • The Priory is connected to the Knights Templar due to its connection with Jesus Christ himself.
  • In 1209 it was formed by Hugh de Payens (Grand master) who was appointed by Peter Lombard (bishop). This order became known as “The Poor Knights of Asturias”. They protected pilgrims traveling through France on their way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain where they would be blessed by St James’ cross or “St James’ wounds”.
  • In 1309 there were eight knights chosen for this task; however only five survived until 1312 when King Philippe IV ordered them executed because he believed they were plotting against him!
  • It is devoted to installing the Merovingian dynasty, that ruled the Franks from 457 to 751, on the thrones of France and the rest of Europe.
  • It created the Knights Templar as its military arm and financial branch.

Conclusion

The Priory of Sion is a secret society that today claims to be the direct descendant of Jesus Christ in his Merovingian bloodline. It was founded by a man named Pierre Plantard, who claimed to be descended from Jesus’s cousin James and Jesus’s niece Mariamne. The Priory of Sion has many branches in different places around the world including France, Britain, Switzerland and even Italy; however, one branch is situated in Europe’s oldest university city Cambridge England where research continues into ancient texts such as the Holy Grail.
